NSAID Dosing for Period Cramps & Pelvic Pain

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may help relieve menstrual cramps and pelvic pain by reducing prostaglandin production.

Common NSAIDs include:

  • Ibuprofen
  • Naproxen These medications often work best when started at the beginning of cramping or 1–2 days before an expected period. Important safety information

NSAIDs should be used cautiously or avoided in individuals with:

  • Kidney disease
  • Stomach ulcers
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Certain heart conditions
  • NSAID allergies Always follow dosing instructions on the medication label unless otherwise directed by your healthcare provider. If pain is severe, worsening, or not improving with medication, additional evaluation may be needed.
